External Hard Drive Noises

August 7th, 2016

So this is the second External Hard Drive I’ve had that’s done this, same brand, Seagate, same size, 1.5TB.
After a few days of using it, when it’s in use it’ll occasionally click like crazy and make all the sorts of noises it would make when turning on/off. Thing is, I can still use it just fine, but when it begins making the noises, whatever I’m doing on it freezes (playing a game, browsing through the drive in explorer) until the damn thing shuts the hell up.
So is it busted? Is it something that can be fixed? Should I just stay the hell away from this brand?

Click of death
On a hard disk drive, the click of death refers to a similar phenomenon, generally a read/write error during a seek. If the hard disk has a hard error (a hardware failure that cannot be undone by rebooting), or servomechanism failure, the head actuator will buzz and click as the drive tries to recalibrate to recover from the error. In most cases, the defect is due to physical abuse or a manufacturing error. The cause of the read/write errors is often due to the failure of the read/write heads' preamplifier, a small chip usually found soldered to the flexible cable on the actuator of modern hard drives.

It could be the 2.5″ to USB Converter Board or the main HDD Board that can cause problems
Answer #3
That does sound similar, with the double clicking, although the sound is different, but I guess that just changes with different brands?
Speaking of brands, seeing as this is the second time I definitely won’t be buying this ~love~ again.
