Modem Routers

August 12th, 2013

Are modem routers in one not as good as a modem and router seperately? Looking around there seems to be very little choices for modem/router in one (atleast where i live).
Is overheating an issue with the two in one?
Thanks.

Do note that there are two types of these, There are ADSL routers (Modem/Router combo for an ADSL connection) and
Cable gateways (Similar but for a Cable connection), The 2nd kind (Cable) is a lot less common and harder to find.
Do know what your buying, An ADSL router would be completely useless if your on Cable.

This question is too generic, Each case to it’s own.

Not at all!

I’ve never heard of overheating issues, unless you leave one on a window ledge in direct sunlight
Also bear in mind that not every modem/router is compatible for every single ISP
eg. If you are using adsl2+ then an ordinary adsl modem/router will probably not work.
Check what service your ISP is providing first before buying, and if any special firmware may be needed.
