XP Home install asking for COA

February 13th, 2017

I bought a Dell OEM XP Home disk and when I trying installing it, it’s asking for a Certificate of Authenticity. It has the unlock serial on the disk envelope. I’ve never come across this before. Since I don’t have the Dell computer I guess it’s married to, what would I do here? Thanks.

call the customer service where you bought the comp from. but i dont really know what Certificate of Authenticity means, and i never had a problem like that.
i installed a different windows right away when i got my comp :p
Answer #2
Did you check if the date is set right in the bios?
Answer #3
If the Windows was installed on the Dell using the serial you will not be able to authenticate it on another computer since the Dell’s hardware profile was sent to Microsoft and bound with the serial number. That’s the unfortunate part of installing OEM copies. Sorry mate :<
