Transferring to Windows 7 64bit

So I’m soon going to transfer to Windows 7 64bit ultimate. I’m wondering a few things
1. If I install in D:/ drive(which wasn’t the original drive which Windows was installed on) does that mean I keep all my registry settings and thus, keep my programs?
2.If I install on my C:/ drive (original windows drive) do I keep my registry settings from previous install? Re-installing programs is a pain.

to answer both: No
Either option will allow you to copy over all your stuff however (assuming in 2. that you dont format). You’ll still have to re-install everything since settings arent transfered over during installation
