Changing from Windows 7 32 bit to 64bit

August 6th, 2016

Hi there.
I recently bought a laptop which had come with windows 7 (not on cd).
When using the setup i chose 32 bit.
My computer specs are:
4gig RAM
Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.3GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium
300gig HDD
512mb ATI graphics card
It says its only using 2.95gig out of 4. Is this right?
Its a Toshiba Satellite L500 and I was wondering,
Can I change Windows 7 32bit to 64bit, will my computers specs be good enough AND will 64bit perform much better?
Thanks

dont think so. x64 is mostly for big hardware, and allows mre than 3 or 4GB ram.
it doesnt make that much improvement anyways, believe me. i have a quad processor and 8GB ram, on x64 WIN7 and not much faster than my 32 bit

Your specs are fine for 32bit OS, only big difference is 32bit allows you to use 3.25GB of RAM while 64bit OS will attempt to use 4GBs. There will be significant performance gain from switching. Its up to you whether to switch or not. I would not bother cuz im lazy unless you feel like reformat is needed then thats when you go with 64x.

Performance gains are minimal, at best. As other have said, you can utilize more RAM but that’s about it.
Answer #4
Ram wont speed up your pc. i have 8 GB of ram, and my pc doent never ever go more than 2GB up

Multi-tasking is the key to your answer.
32 bit will only recognize and use up to 4gb of memory…. but remember you must include video memory etc as well.
To take advantage of more you need to use 64 bit.
Having said that…. do you multitask enough to require 64bit? What is your video memory? Off the top of my head I would guess that 32 bit is just fine for you unless you are running multiple labor intensive programs at once (on a regular basis) and have at least 1 gb of video ram.
32 bit will recognize most of your ram now… but that doesn’t mean you need all of it or are currently using it.
Hope this helps.

32bit is fine for u.. as it’ll utilize 3.5 gb of RAM and 500mb for reserve..
Answer #7
It really does depend on what you intend on using on your laptop.
Intense gaming, lots of windows = x64
Otherwise = x86
Answer #8
At the moment it is only using 2.95gig out of 4. Is this right?
