[SOLVED]I just ruined 2 USB Drives!

April 1st, 2017

So yea, I just basically somehow managed to ruin 2 USB Drives I had laying around, I was trying to copy Win7 x64 to my USB via the USB Download Tool which is official by Microsoft.
So yea I go the through the process and I get the “bootsect can’t create a bootable USB blah blah” so I started searching around Google, found a post suggesting I should use disk part to format the disk and the instructions were as follows:
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format quick fs=fat32
assign
exit

But after typing the 2nd command and then typing clean, the USB got corrupted and doesn’t work anymore, It won’t read USB’s size, I can’t format it, I’ve tried different tools i.e HP Format Tool but nothing seems to be working.
So I grabbed my other USB I had around and did exactly the same steps and the USB stopped worked right after I clicked clean on diskpart.
I guess there should be a solution to this?
Thanks a lot guys.

Answer #1
Some cheap usb pens just don’t boot…The usb tool should be able to format it and install the bootsector..
Answer #2
Thanks , the USB drivers in particular have worked earlier, I’ve successfully booted Linux/XP on them, but for some reason Win7 wasn’t working on them, and yea as soon as I ran diskpart and typed ‘clean’ the drives stopped working, same scenarios for both of them.
And nope, the USB Tool and other tools seem to not be working, I’ve tried quite a few methods.
Answer #3
See if you can get hold of a copy of Hiren’s BootCD 10 then use Acronis Disk Director..
Answer #4
You do need to follow the complete diskpart instruction(not just stop after clean) its like installing a new HDD/SSD, it needs to be initialized and have a partition created.
Answer #5
For whatever reason the HP Format Tool seemed to be working fine and solved the issue with both drives, thanks for the help.
