[solved] Help needed. protection against USB drives viruses

July 25th, 2016

Hi I am in need of some brain storming. I am recently been asked to protect few PC’s from viruses. They are infected by them a lot and causes lots of trouble like The main source of virus is USB drives. So I would if some one can help me to apply some measures against it. I already know about disabling autorun of USB drives but if there are other ways like some security lock or better security softwares which can run hand in hand with antivirus and can scan it better for such viruses. I also want to prevent people from double clicking USB drives so that they either have to open it from RUN or address bar as PC gets infected mainly because of virus spread after USB opening by double click. I want to know if I can apply specific rules and policies against them using antivirus or operating system itself like group policies.
We use Win7 prof as OS and various antivirus and different PC like Symantec and Quick heal and many free antiviruses too.
Edit : I want to add that PCs in concern are used by various no of persons. They all uses Pen drives too.
I hope you understand my problem and needs. Please ask anything if needed.

Answer #1
Comodo Pro will grab any threat from USB drive, which protection wise is good but an absolute nightmare when trying to move anything with a keygen etc between PC’s, quite often find files missing from USB only to find them tucked up safe and warm in quarantine.

Thanks mate very useful info. I will see if I can implement it with other solutions
The problem as seems to me is antivirus security. Symantec End Point Protection don’t recognize any pen drive threats and i can’t replace the anti virus security with any other so I have to find other solutions.

I used to use this tool, it is powerful.
About Antivirus, Avira is my hero.

I too use it at home and likes the PC vaccination feature. But some how if my PC is infected it becomes useless. I mean it can do nothing if PC itself is infected on which it is installed. Virus will get added to pen drive automatically.
Answer #10
Most software ( even antivirus ) don’t work properly, if your PC infected.
So at first you should clean ( run complete scan after updating your antivirus ) your PC then use that tool to protect it.
If you your antivirus infected also, try online virus scanner here:

I prefer Panda usb vaccine for protection against usb virus. It is not an anti virus. It just disable the autorun.inf file and uses a very little system resource.
