Restrict download speed on a MAC address via a Router ?

August 23rd, 2013

Its like this , I have wifi setup at home with a router as follows:
D-Link : DIR-635
Have 3 machines connected to it…
Internet connection : 1 Mbps with 10 GB a month cap, after 10GB it goes down to a 256 kbps damn slow connection
I need to some how limit the download speed / set a quota via the router based on MAC address of a PC so that a machine cannot use more than a limit of speed set for downloads from that 1 mbps connection
I am not able to get from where to get it done on the router’s page, can someone help me find this option please ?
Regards,
CB

Answer #1
you try contacting D-Link directly
or you may need hardware like this “D-LINK DI-LB604 4-Port Load Balancing Router”
Answer #2
As far as I can see that router doesn’t support DD-WRT or Tomato or any of the other popular custom firmware. You’re SOL.
Answer #3
use NetLimiter or Antamedia Bandwidth Manager 2.0..
