[SOLVED] SKY Throttle my internet speed on a Netgear router

August 7th, 2013

I share my internet with 3 other people and when i play online my internet lags too much! I know its because of continue streaming online by the other members. I have tried looking online for software’s that can control download speed and limit users, but it is usually the router that control this function.
I did a little research and found out that QoS is a feature on some Netgear routers that can be use to prioritize internet as show on screenshot:

This is how my router looks, but i do not have the QoS option???
Those who have experience in Netgear routers, please tell me what model to buy for the QoS option (or) does anyone know other compatible routers that will work with my UK ISP (SKY broadband). I will really appreciate your help

You will need the custom firmware for that router from DGTeam (you need to join their forum)

Just don’t power off the router in the middle of flashing it or you’ll brick it

Isn’t DGTeam just for Netgears DG series of routers?
In any case, DD-WRT and OpenWRT both support it.

All new sky customers no longer get the netgear routers. Now sky use Sagem 2504N routers. As usual Sky has disabled QoS feature by default without option to chnge it. I have found a site with custom firmware that unlocks these features here: http://www.ph-mb.com/products/sagem-firmware

Yup – that’s what’s on the second screenshot “DG834GT” that’s the router SKY used to use anyways, not the first screenshot (that’s from a different router)?
Cheers for that info berserk_gutts – handy to know, glad you got sorted
