Problems with XP

January 21st, 2020

Ok guys,
I’m having some troubles with my computer.
It started with it continously blocking and just plain crashing.
It said some file from xp was missing.
This resulted that I wasn’t able sto start my computer anymore…
So, what I did was re-install xp.
But now, my computer no longer accepts all updates from Microsoft.
The new mediaplayer and internet explorer programs I was able to download.
But normal updates, such as some patches won’t install.
I don’t know if it’s related, probably, but I’m not sure, I’ve been experiencing some weird blue screens, it’s not the well know normal blue screen of death anymore.
This is something that says that I should disable my bios to take ghostcopy’s or something. Anyways, I should alter something in my bios memory settings.
Next time it happens I’ll write the full text down.
So I have two problems:
1. I can’t install all the Microsoft Windows updates anymore.
2. I keep on getting bluescreens that tell me to change something with my bios.
Long story short:
Somethings broken -> So my family thinks it’s my fault
I fix it -> New problems arise.
New problems -> Can’t fix them.
All help with this will be very much appreciated!

Did you format the HD/Partition before or during the XP install ?
If you want a clean install the first thing you must do is to download all the drivers for your hardware from the manufacturers sites.
If you install Everest it will give you complete (plus more) details of everything within your PC box.
It looks like you have messed things up because you shouldn’t have to enter the BIOS to change anything to install XP unless it is to disable an onboard anti-virus setup.
Try a fresh install ………. this will mean you will loose everything on your OS drive/partition ……… then you will have to install all the programs that were there before.
But get the drivers first.

What saturnsid said, But then if you still get problems remove the BIOS battery, (Google that for more info) and that resets everything in your BIOS.
Answer #3
Ok, I don’t think this is necessary… (if it is, tell me!)
I reinstalled xp from a product recovery dvd.
My computer wouldn’t start anymore and when I booted it just kept on saying enter product recovery cd.
Only for recovery of the originally selected language version.
Windows xp Home Edition SP2
There was no other option, and never was I asked to format anything.
Answer #4
Obviously the product recovery CD didn’t work as it should.
Best thing you can do is to download a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 (a corporate version is best). Burn the download to disk then insert the disk into your drive and do a clean install. This will mean formatting the drive/partition (usually drive C) then continuing with the install. The XP CD gives you the option of formatting during the install process … format to NTFS file system ….. and do a QUICK format not a complete format ‘cos that will take forever if you have a large HD.
After the OS installs install all your hardware drivers. Then install Directx9c, Sun Java, Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player if required. If you need Microsoft .Net Framework then install that also. Install the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack for all your codecs.
Anything I’ve missed perhaps someone else can fill in.

Answer #5
Get Driver Magician and get all the latest drivers from it. Looks like you arent formatting properly.
