Pillars of Eternity – several questions…
May 19th, 2019
1) First, which version should I be looking for? There seem to be several, like Hero, Royal etc.
2) Is the gameplay similar to Dungeon Siege? Like, where the player gets to wander about and interact\battle with NPC’s as he\she pleases?
3) Many of the screenshots I’ve seen here appear to have non-English text labels. What’s the story with that?
4) Anyone able to recommend the best, most comprehensive download?
Thanks for reading
The game is made from the same creators of Baulders Gate and Ice Wind Dale series. (I havnt played Dungeon Siege so cant compare it to that game..). The difference in the versions is one came with extras such as pictures and music and crap like that I think.. If you read reviews the game is rated very high and deserves to be so. The game is in English, it has a number of other languages you can select maybe you have seen pics of people who play it one of them.
I would suggest getting it from the bellow post. Get the FLT version as well as the update and dlc’s. (There is a core repack which is smaller in size but cant be updated with the patch. I got that one, and didnt run into any bugs, but apparently with out the update the game can bug in a few places.)

1 – I have the “royal” version, it seems the most complete.
2 – No, it’s more like Baldurs gate or planescape torment, with updated graphics. Add in a little of the Divinity original Sin game.
But it’s not Dungeon Siege (nor is it anything like as much fun as DS)
It’s a LITTLE bit like Diablo 1 or 2 – but without the loot whoring (which was FUN!).
3 – I think people don’t make their own screenwhots and just link to whatever is available.. which happens to be foreign language shots.
4 – I grabbed the royal version from here – GOG, if I remember right.
PS – I don’t really like this game, it’s not a lot of fun to play and the controls are less than “user friendly”.
Folks, thanks for your comments.
Hi . Sorry about the Bledisloe Cup, mate. It must go to OZ eventually. A lot of our guys are close to moving on or retiring, unfortunately. Re the POI game, I only briefly tried Baulder’s Gate and Ice Wind Dale, but didn’t like the GFX or the game play. For me, there’s never been a better, all-round game than Dungeon Siege. , sounds like your preferences for games are very close to mine. Yeah, I LOVED Dungeon Siege – actually bought every version – and I’ve been looking for a replacement ever since. I get what you and said about the foreign language screen shots, makes sense. Re the POI gameplay, I sorta got the impression from the game trailers that it wasn’t in the same league as DS. Durn! Looks like I’ll have to build myself another XP machine – either real or virtual – and play DS one more time. Maybe, sometime before I cark, a game publisher will bring out a DS look-alike\play alike. And while I’m fantasizing, maybe a replacement for the Lara Croft\Tombraider classics, before Crystal Damnamics and Square Penix screwed up the franchise. Not holding my breath about that, though.
1- all versions are same in terms of gameplay and its contents where they differ is , bonus extras. hero edition the most basic one which only includes the game and manual. champion addition have a few more extras such as maps and artworks. royal edition has a few extras over champion edition such as strategy guides and novella books. in terms of gameplay they are exactly same.
2- the only thing in common with dungeon siege would be the top down point of view. dungeon siege was action rpg which had more dynamic play where you can skip all story and dialogue elements whenever you want. on the other hand pillars of eternity is a serious rpg mostly focus on story and decisions , also includes more tactical combat to specialize when you play at challenging difficulties.
4- standard gog version would be the best since it is completely original but if you cant find it other scene releases are also ok since i assume they are also made from gog release. there is no comprehensive thing as i told before about the game itself so download different editions if you want extras which does not effect anything about game.
, thanks for your comments.
Ok, downloaded a pile of stuff from the links on this page: https://www..org/viewtopic.php?t=21554179&highlight=
and I appear to have everything I need to install. But what’s the ‘Pre-order DLC’ file for?
