Photoshop CS4 Lags big time!
August 5th, 2016
Just want some help here.
My computer previously stomps PS CS3 when it comes to performance, but since a while a ago, i finished my download of PS CS4, I installed it and after installation, I tested it and it lags big time!
The GPU acceleration is supported and turned on..
I think my system is not the problem cause its just newly bought.
Thanks in advance!!
Make sure you have the latest Forceware drivers from here

Hmm, Try to install it again and if that doesn’t work, try downloading another copy.
Thanks guys!
Try doing that tomorrow!!
gotta sleep!!

astroboy I don’t know whether the lags you are talking about are happening to me also, but I can see a major deficiency in CS4’s performance in regard with CS3 on Vista 32bit.
I usually work with many other applications opened and music on background on winamp and now when using CS4’s Selection or Slice Tool, the CPU goes up to 100% and the music stutters – this never happened with CS3. Clearly it is using more CPU than CS3.
Anyways, I was expecting very much from CS4 since I’ve heard that it would use more GPU instead of CPU, as I have an 8800 GTX GeForce. I installed the latest drivers (15oct) from nvidia, unchecked the “Enable OpenGL drawing” in CS4’s performance settings .. still its performance is under CS3. Can someone confirm this ? Or is it just me ? I have recently installed CS4 on a fresh-installed 64bit Vista and will test some more .. in the meantime please tell me that it’s a local problem and in fact CS4 works smoothly.
LE/update: I found some discussions over to the adobeforums and it seems that there are some problems with the nvidia graphic cards (drivers). Adobe says that they are aware of the issues and they are working with nvidia in developing new compatible drivers. This scenario is pretty horror to me, especially because they said they’ve tested Adobe CS4 products on several graphic cards with no problems. I even found that list and my card was there.. still all the people on that thread are complaining about this very sluggish-slow-crashing performance of PS CS4.
Anyways .. long story short: we have to wait and check nvidia.com for the new drivers
hi people, also, CS3 worked GREAT! for me, then i downloaded CS4 and brushes are as fast as a pre-war fiat.
Can’t belive the huge set-back, i tried installing the latest drivers and it helped, then i restarted my PC, and CS4 was slow as hell AGAIN!, i mean what’s going on here ?!? (Nvidia Geforce 9500 go, Intel Core Duo 2.0Ghz, 4gb Ram)
Haha, this is a joke, now im switching over to GIMP, though i will miss the .dds export (for game mods and 3d meshes textures), i always liked gimp, only CS3 seemed like a bit better option, and now that cs4 mesed up big time, GIMP is #1.
On the other hand if any of you guys know a solution that would really help!
Thanks
Dev.
