Pc trouble. pc lags even in windows but great system

ok ill give away one of my steam accounts to anyone who can fix this problem. this is kinda hard to describe but its like this, i have a really good pc but when im on it for a while it starts to have skips. kinda like a dvd that is scractched and the mouse skips over the screen and its really frustrating to do anything or play any games.
my specs:
AMD anthlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.4ghz 939 socket
MSI-7093 mobo EVGA 9800GTX+
550 watt antec psu
74gb raptor drive 40 gb western digital drive 20 gb seagate drive
no cd drives
and this has been going on for months now and ive already reinstalled windows twice. please help

check if you got the newest drivers and/or if any part of the hardware runs hot … (like really hot)

I know this sounds stupid but when you reinstalled did you fully format + go through the install without any network connections plugged in?

yeah i ever installed on 2 different hard drives to make sure. some one said it was my psu but i tried 3 other ones had laying around and i just bought a new antec 550 watt psu so i dont think its lack of power and to the guy who said it was running to hot i dont think it is because i even underclocked it to get lower than normal temperatures . so i have no idea

1.5 gb ram ddr 400. 2 sticks are 512 mb and 2 are 256 mb

That just might be your problem, get yourself 2gigs of g.skill, and get rid of the other ones. Gskill has some good prices @newegg, i bought 4gigs for $60, had alot of lag before that. Might very well fix your problem. good luck.
