January 25th, 2020

Mate of mines laptop has these lines going across his screen from time to time kinda like if there was a problem with his graphics card or something on that line would he need to flash his bios to fix it or change the card. He’s using windows 10 x32bit but the laptop itself had x64 bit windows on it when 1st got would maybe upgradin it to x64 fix it as well
Answer #1
I would say its a graphics card issue but before saying that, please run a hardware diagnostic on it to determine what really causes the issue?
Answer #2
It is a graphics issue… The way to fix it is another issue… Google it, many problems like yours, I would say update your GPU…
Answer #3
was thinking meself its probably the graphics card but ill see what he wants to do about it anyway
Answer #4
It does sound rather like GPU soldering or GPU itself might be giving away.
They get pretty hot plus have to put up with users pounding the keyboard.
Sometimes they can be reflowed but that a job for a service center.
Of course, if it is one where the card can be changed, it would be easier!
Answer #5
Before you do any invasive work – check for dust bunnies in the vents.
If you have a vacuum cleaner with a power adjustment, put it on low and suck at the vents – get those bunnies out!
Answer #6
he was saying that when it happens the lines go across then the mousepad freezes then the screen goes pink
Answer #7

Answer #8
he was saying that when it happens the lines go across then the mousepad freezes then the screen goes pink
That’s what makes me think “overheating”.
Answer #9
Googling the make/model and the fault you are getting with the laptop may reveal something..
Answer #10
First of all connect laptop to a regular monitor (google it). If problem disappears it’s not the gpu it’s either the screen or the cable to the screen. If it still makes the lines then disconnect from monitor. Lay it on a flat surface with it on, move the lid up and down. If that causes the lines then it’s probably the screen, screen cable. Screens are really tough to fix and a new one is more than laptop is worth. I work on laptops and have yet to see one where the GPU is changeable, so forget that. Baking the board is not recommend. Taking a laptop apart to do so will probably destroy something and trash it. I bake and have had little success. I’m baking right now. If you have been putting your laptop on a bed, blanket etc. you have probably already trashed it. You’re choices will narrow if you do these easy tests. If it’s a HP then don’t bother trying to fix it, my opinion. If it works with an external monitor then use it that way. I’m on a laptop now with a 23″ HDTV. Nice pic. Try to fix it yourself, not good. Or just use it and save money for another. My choice? Just use it.
