No Audio Output Device is Installed (code 10)

September 22nd, 2013

Hello folks.
I recently updated my neighbours laptop from XP to Windows 7. Everything seems to be working fine, with the exception of the sound – theres none!
I have reinstalled windows on several computers before and while i’ve had driver issues in the past, this one has given me no end of problems.
I have tried (and failed) to uninstall the driver and then install it again (realtak) but still nothing. When I check through windows, they seem to think that the driver was installed correctly and is up to date.
Does anyone have any ideas?
The laptop is a toshiba satellite P105 S614 and I should add that the sound was working perfectly fine before I upgraded the operating system…
Thanks in advance
Dave

Answer #1
I Googled it but wasn’t able to find any drivers for this particular model,Get the following tool and run it on the laptop in question:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cmd5ty9iv1ng1re
Copy & paste the output,Then I’ll be able to find you a compatible driver,This tool will list the hardware ids (which are unique)

The above link takes me to another helpdesk thread buddy…
Answer #3
Yep,Sorry bout that,Didn’t realize I pasted the wrong link,Fixed now^.

don’t see a “s614”, is it a “s6014”
looks like it’s “Conexant Sound” and not realtek

Go to realtek website and download Realtek driver directly from there.
¿Toshiba claims it is an “HD” sound card? If so, you must download the latest “HD” driver, if not, the latest “no HD” driver.
(Sorry, then i read lower on thread it says conexant)

Thanks for the reply. I installed the driver and unlike the last time when I was installing the realtek one, it instaled successfully. I no longer have the little red cross over the sound icon and it shows up fine in device manager, but I stll do’t have any sound coming through the speakers…
Any other suggestions buddy?

It wont,I just DLd and checked the INF,The HW ID doesn’t match.
Anyways,It seems difficult to find a compatible driver for this one,Already downloaded 4 of em and none of em had the same ID,Gonna keep on looking.
Answer #9
You installed windows 7 from scratch right ? not upgraded from the CD, sometimes that can cause such slight problems. Whats about simple windows updates, any hardware drivers updates comes up during custom installation. If all else fail downgrade to XP & see if the sound comes back on, it may have developed some problems since..

Thanks man. I hope you’re able to find something

One of these should work:
http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/files_downloads/pspa1c/vista/Audio4.8.0.0.zip
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/sound-20070718114232.zip

Anyways,Seems I made a small error previously,I didn’t look at the HDA section of the log and mistakenly thought that
the “DEV_27D8&SUBSYS_FF311179&REV_02\3&33FD14CA&0&D8” was the sound card,When it’s in fact related to the
modem’s audio (which is already installed apperently),The driver edwoodweb linked you to should’ve worked okay,But anyways
hope you’ll have better luck with these.

I tried both drivers you mentioned but they have the same problem as the earlier driver I tried. It installs fine and removes the red cross, but still no sound at all.The volume dial can now be adjusted and there is a bar that fluctuates as though it can monitor the sound level.
Does it mater that these drivers mention vista when really I am running windows 7?

Nope,Vista drivers are fully compatible with Win7.
Have you checked for a physical volume slider on the laptop itself as suggested by edwoodweb?

Bang on the money guys.
I never even noticed there was a volume slider. In fairness, im not used to the laptop and im sitting in darkness trying to sort it.
Superb work as always. I knew the w-bb boys wouldn’t let me down
Answer #16
Go Control Panel > Sound > Playback devices… and make sure your sound card is set as default device and volume is turned up and not muted.
Go to your sound card in Device Manager and do a driver update…Let Windows go online and search for a driver.
Answer #17
Nel The problem has been resolved already^
