Motherboard Compatible with Radeon HD 7770?

January 28th, 2020

Amd athlon ii x2 270 3.4ghz
EMX-MCP61D3-iCafe(Emaxx)
4gb DDR3 memory
500gb HDD
Im currently planning to buy AMD RADEON HD 7770 VC.
Is my motherboard okay? Can I run modern games with smooth gameplay?

Answer #1
Yes, They’re compatible!
But as far as “smooth gameplay” is concerned, I can’t answer that without knowing which exact
games you’re referring to. To be honest, Your CPU is very low-end and I seriously doubt you’ll
be able to run any recent ones “smoothly”
Answer #2
Plus, you must make sure you have a 6-pin connector on your power supply since the motherboard will not be able to provide enough power for the card. However, the HD 7770 will be extremely bottlenecked by your processor, and so I’d recommend you get a lower-end GPU to save some money.

well, like the newly out Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Tomb Raider, Far cry 3 and stuff. So, are you suggesting that I should upgrade my CPU as well?

So I should upgrade my processor then? I don’t think my power supply has 6-pin connector so maybe the motherboard too?
Please do not double post, -

That is a viable option since your motherboard seems to support socket AM3. I’d recommend getting the Phenom X4 965 cause many stores still sell it. If you are set on getting a HD 7770, i would say get a any w500 PSU from reliable brands (like Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, Seasonic, etc…). They all should have 6-pin GPU connectors.
Your motherboard is definitely old, but should still serve your purposes well, and so does not require upgrading for the moment.

I see. Actually, that’s what my friend also told me I’m upgrading my casing since it’s too small for the 7770 to fit and of course the PSU with 6-pin connector as you suggested and I’m also thinking to upgrade my memory to 8gb. Thank you for you help!
