IDM fake serial number message

January 28th, 2020

Hello guys,
I have been annoyed by the fake serial message for Internet Download Manager.
I uninstalled it and installed the new version and followed the steps for activation (I used more than one topic here at bb) but I still get these annoying message.
Does anybody know how to fix this? thanks

Just had that problem today to. Didnt know other are having the same problem. I got mine solved by using revo uninstaller. Let it uninstall then delete/remove anything that it found while scanning. I then restart pc and then install a fresh IDM from the link below.

I created a text file named IDMGrHlp.txt and renamed it to IDMGrHlp.exe, and put that in the directory replacing the existing one and it’s working so far. No more fake serial key nag messages. I didn’t even have to reinstall or do anything else.

IMD is getting their game up. Mine still working fine after the hard reinstall.

I created a text file named IDMGrHlp.txt and renamed it to IDMGrHlp.exe
Is that any different, functionally, than just renaming/disabling the original file to whatever, e.g. IDMGrHlp1.exe ? But the popup’s no longer happening with me so thanks to whomever for finding that this file is the culprit..

, do you mean by ‘hard reinstall’ just using Revo? Did you change the file name? I
think that’s the key. I used Revo before reinstalling but the message still came up after a couple of days. Also, Revo doesn’t remove everything from the registry. Run Registry Crawler in Admin mode after and you’ll see what I mean. This is true for any uninstall.

Thank to your solution I hope it not keep pop up again

Yep it worked for me too but it only until I restarted my PC
Then after the next restart when I used IDM again I got a new Nag screen telling me that IDM is missing a needed file (which was IDMGrHlp.exe). The reg file edit seems to work the best for me so far.
