How would you know if the HDMI slot is input or output?

July 26th, 2016

Hi, I have an HP laptop and it has a HDMI slot, but I don’t know if it’s an HDMI input or output, so my question is, How would you know if the HDMI slot is input or output? the thing is I want to hook up my xbox360 into my laptop monitor so that I can play xbox360 over my laptop monitor by the HDMI cable… is it possible ?
Thank you,
Moe

Answer #1
No. Laptop screens can not be used as monitors besides by the laptop itself. The HDMI cable will be to output it to a television.
(or atleast that used to be the case, someone feel free to correct me)
Answer #2
well, what about the VGA slot? could it be also an output ?
Answer #3
Yes. Simply plug it into your device and set the options in your graphics card software or resolution settings screen to use the laptop as an extended screen or default display.
Answer #4
stewart has got this right, laptops always have VGA/DVI/etc outs, I’ve never seen them with inputs. The idea is to allow you to dual screen or whatever.
