I’m pretty sure you cant change it, its like a MAC for a network device its hard coded in it

As far as I know, you can’t. That would make it too simple for criminals. Your friend should rather try to track down the owner of the phone and return it.

^^^ @ only applicable for India, moreover if the phone has been reported lost/ stolen by real owner- then u could get in legal trouble.
Why not do the right thing and get in touch with police so that they can help you return it to its rightful owner?

If you change that IMEI, your phone will lost signals and will restart automatically… in other words NOT WORTH! Take it back to real owner or throw it, or use it like that!

Do not buy it!! and suggest ur friend to submit the phone to police station. Saving a few thousand bucks is not at all worth risking legal actions that can be taken if found guilty!! I say drop the whole idea. Don’t buy it .
