AOL opens when external drive turns on

November 9th, 2019

Every time I turn my external drive on, AOL opens up with this message:
An error has occurred. If you receive this message repeatedly, please exit and close AOL, then restart the AOL program.
I have no reason for aol to be associated with external drives. I also don’t use aol but others here in the household do, therefore I can’t uninstall it.
Is there any way to stop this from occurring?
Thanks for reading and any assistance in this matter.
I’m on Win7 and AOL is 9.7

It’s probably an .inf file on the external drive that starts autorun.
You could (and should) disable autorun as this is probably the most common method for malware distribution between computers.
Disable by either going to control panel and clicking autorun. Uncheck the autorun button and save.
You can also run a quick reg patch that does the same thing:

check startup and services in msconfig
