Worth upgrading?

January 27th, 2020

Lots of pc-upgrading-topics lately…I wonder why Mr. Green Anyway, my computer is pretty decent but not great by any means, these are my basic specs:
Mainboard:Asus M2N-TE
Chipset:nVidia nForce 550
Processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ @ 2600MHz
Physical Memory:1024MB (2 x 512 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card :NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Hard Disk:Seagate ST350083 0AS SCSI Disk Device (500GB)
Hard Disk:Seagate ST315003 41AS (1500GB)
DVD-Rom Drive :Toshiba-Samsung DVD-ROM SH-D163B
DVD-Rom Drive :Optiarc DVD RW AD-7191S
Monitor Type :MD30999PD – 19 inches
Operating System :Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition Media Center Service Pack 2 (32-bit)
DirectX:Version 11.00
Windows Performance Index:5.2 on 5.9
Now obviously, the weak points are the video card & CPU. So my question is: is this thing worth upgrading (only replacing CPU & Video Card), or am I better off composing a whole new system?
My knowledge regarding stuff such as motherboards is pretty limited, so maybe there’s an issue there as well.
Looking forward to your answers!
P.S.If upgrading is your choice, a cost estimate is very welcome! Thanks.

Gaming purposes mainly. Figure that’ll need a better processor and definately video card.
With regards to budget, it depends of course. Looking for parts which will get me back up to speed for like 2 years or something. Not the best of the best, cause I’m not going to spend thousands, but just parts which are fitted for games nowadays.

You would need extra ram to if you wanted to play newer games, but to be honest i`d start over with a newer
rig, it looks like you need to do to much upgrading, if you get a new cpu/gpu/ram you might aswell get a motherboard
upgrade, allso consider your psu,
I`d say if you`ve got it cpu=110 gpu=100 mobo= 70 ram 50 and maybe psu= 50 this is for an estimate for a AMD system

Any Specific Budget??

You’re better off purchasing an entirely new rig. As you are upgrading your gpu and cpu, your ram would cause a bottleneck in your system to only go so far.
