Private Internet Access is pretty good. They have plenty servers in different countries to change your I.P to, plus they also support multiple method of encryption. Their speed is great, and on my 60 MB fiber optic i get around 50 MB speed through VPN.

They are awful

  • They do not have good, reliable support, their live chat is useless
  • They do not provide timely updates, such as the response to heartbleed.
  • They don’t provide adequate change logs for their app.
  • Their entire network goes offline and they provide a response two days later.
  • They do not have transparency such as a warrant canary meaning we do not know if they have been served with an NSL.

Don’t be lured in by their cheap price, although they do “work” reliably in my experience, their Android app is half broken and not maintained, and their overall service has declined to a point where they are no longer a feasible option to me, and I will be seeking an alternative soon. Checkout Airvpn, I’ve been watching them and they look quite good. Still vetting them though and seeing if they provide a better service over PIA.

I have both cyberghost and PIA. Both seem decent for me.

I’ve used PIA for a few years and never had an issue. I did receive an email the other day that their site was going down but the VPN service was uninterrupted.
I looked at AirVPN the other day, and was surprised they kept logs of their “top ten users” just for show, now that would scare me if they are messing about like that.

They have no 24/7 support, and reports are they take ages to respond as only about 3 or 4 people actually work there.
StrongVPN used to be the dogz bollocks, but they were always iffy about torrents.

I think you’re being a bit harsh. I’ve been using this service since March. My experience has actually been really good. I’ve never tried Livechat, however I’ve sent them emails and they usually responded within a few hours. Their support isn’t stellar but it is adequate. Their network also has not gone offline since I’ve been a member. Also I have emailed them about implementing Warrant Canary and they said they wouldn’t, which was annoying.
And you’re right about the Android app. It is by far the worst app I have ever used. It rendered my firewall useless, uses up a lot of my data, and my phone can’t hold a charge with it active. I rather my privacy be snooped than deal with that nonsense. They really need to work on it.
Overall, I recommend them. They take user privacy seriously with 0 logs, they don’t care about torrenting no matter your server, and I get my maximum dl speeds. Just wish they had Warrant Canary and a better maintained mobile app. Other than that, they’re price can’t be beaten and the desktop app is reliable.

If you want a VPN service with 100% transparency, These two are your best bet:
https://www.liquidvpn.com/
https://proxy.sh/

Both have a lot of similarities, Such as:
1. Both offer transparency reports:
https://proxy.sh/report
https://www.liquidvpn.com/billing/knowledgebase/14/Transparency-Reports

In which they list any complaints received (Mostly DMCAs) and specify which action was taken.
2. Both offer warrant canaries:
https://proxy.sh/canary
https://www.liquidvpn.com/billing/canary/canary

3. Both claim not to keep logs (But reserve the right to enable logging on a particular server from time to time in case of abuse, They also claim they’d notify the users in advance of such a move)
Liquidvpn:
No expect 100% privacy when connecting to LiquidVPN. Our VPN services do not have logging enabled. Our system logs are purged frequently. Due to the nature of the service our HDDs are not big enough to save logs to begin with. The only logging that is done is done via our authentication server. Our authentication servers track accounts only. It does not track IP addresses. The only exception is when there is a problem with a service and our technicians need to troubleshoot. We will make an announcement before logging is enabled on any server.
Taken from this page under “do you keep logs”
https://www.liquidvpn.com/vpn-service-faq/
proxy.sh:
Proxy.sh is the only VPN provider to keep its customers updated in real time about any intervention that may take place across its network. We only intervene when we need to resolve performance issues, stop abuses or respond to legitimate and transparent law enforcement requests.
And also:
We may employ Wireshark app to troubleshoot issues, but we always wipe it after usage.
Taken from here:
https://proxy.sh/logs
There have been at least two known cases where both of em enabled logging, More info here:

Proxy.sh VPN Provider Sniffed Server Traffic to Catch Hacker

In both cases, Users were notified first. So at least they were fair about it!
Kinda makes you wonder what do other, “non-logging” VPNs do in similar situations.

I looked at AirVPN the other day, and was surprised they kept logs of their "top ten users" just for show, now that would scare me if they are messing about like that.

Good find!
I don’t think it’s a reason to panic tho.
It’s not uncommon for VPN providers to log bandwidth usage and connection duration, It doesn’t mean they log actual connection data (In fact, They’ve denied doing so on multiple occasions!)
Using VPNs is mostly a straightforward process, Why would you need 24/7 support? Also, Their forum appears to be quite active (No idea about e-mail response time tho)

hmm was looking into the proxy.sh and liquid vpn, which would you suggest for the price. Are they located in the usa? Wondering where there main hub is located. How trust worthy are they and how long have they been around?
