Virusfighter : Legit antivirus or rogue spyware ?

I repaired a computer today and yesterday which was full of nasty spyware and all. The spyware also blocked every program I attempted to start, so that was nasty. But in the end, obviously I won
Yet I wonder, because next to a rogue spyware application I found a piece of software named Virusfighter. Appearantly the users of the computer used that for a longer period of time, and well they we`re satisfied.
But I dont quite trust it. Google comes up with either download pages, that are mainly hosted by the creator, and questions about how to remove it. Few results actually state it is a piece of rogue spyware, but I have my doubts. I believe SPAMFighter is from the same makers, but that one really does appear to be a good, working anti SPAM application.
If you can help me sort this out, make it clearer please do.
