Answer #1
that’s a good 1
how much ?
Answer #2
The 1GB models of that are slower at standard resolutions than the 512MB versions as the 1GB ones only have a 256bit memory interface. They are only good if you’re going to game at above 1600×1200
Answer #3
so u mean that its better if i buy a 512 MB Vga?
Answer #4
so u mean that its better if i buy a 512 MB Vga?
nope
he’s saying that the 4850 1gb version is slower than the 512mb one, but that’s not necessarily true with all cards
but if your buying a 4850 then yes the 512mb one is faster
how much you got to spend ?
Answer #5
well i can spend upto $300 max
Answer #6
well thats almost the 2nd best ati card u can get
its inbetween a 9800 gt/gtx
the only faster cards i know of are teh HD4870 (ati) and the gtx280 (nvidia)
but i wonder u’ll find any of these for <300$
Answer #7
its inbetween a 9800 gt/gtx
Nope it’s better than the GTX

Nope it’s better than the GTX
have my doubts
gtx has a 70+ gb/s transfer rate
4850 is “only” 60-ish
even clock speed isnt as high as nvidias
Answer #9
Well do some research then. Check benchmarks
Answer #10

well with a budget like that might as well get a 260 GTX, from these tests the 896mb versions fare better than the HD 4870 on vista but slightly less on XP.

Answer #11
The ati hd’s are good and cheap for your needs, but if you want gaming, either a Ati hd 4860 or a 9800 nVidia card.

the HD 4850 fares better than the 9800 GTX, so if gaming get a 4870, 260/80 GTX or a HD 4870×2
Answer #13
Just get the ATI 4850 It’s one hell of a card. Cheap as well

obviously i did; i found benchmarks siding on both, and since hardware-wise gtx is better i’ll opt for that
just in case ur still in doubt

+4 FPS on a 60 borderline counts
Answer #15
yeah, this latest batch of vid cards seem all over the place
but you can’t go wrong with any of the most recent cards IMO
the 9800GT up to the 4870 are all amazing
I always liked nVidia better than ATI myself, but again you really can’t go wrong with either
Answer #16
There a well priced card that offer good performance on resolutions up to 1680×1050(Most recent games) with high enough settings.
Answer #17
Well whatever that site you got from, it’s completely BS. Lmao 8800GTS/9800GT/8800GT is beating a HD 4850 in Far Cry. Who tests that 5 year old game now anyway? That test is for for CPU bottlenecking
Also those aren’t any proper tests. These cards are designed for higher resolutions and higher AA etc. Check some real benchmarks. Maybe something like this one. Check the settings used on the HD 4850 and the 9800 GTX

Answer #18
Well i’m Confuesed Some Say ATi Some Say Nvidia Weell I’m used to Nvidia Though But I Heard ATI Is Better (Hd4850)For the Price I Can Efford, & btw There’s a XFX Geforece 9800GTX for Just $229 on ebay Is It The Real Price Or why Is It ?
Answer #19
ATI is a heck of a lot better once you turn on the Anti-aliasing etc. With nVdia the new chips just die. New ATI’s hold out pretty well though. And yeah you’re right the nVidia is not worth it’s extra $$$

what you are showing now is a game from 20 years in the past(yes exaggerated i know) and a game heavily optimized for nvidia. when not looking at that you also have the price difference, in the netherlands the 4850 is atleast 50 euro’s cheaper so they are also in a different priceclass. keeping that in mind the 4850 has a better performance/price ratio than the nvidia 9800gtx
here some benchmarks:

the conclusion of this is that the ati card is the real bang for bucks, and if you can afford it go for the 4870 it is the next big thing.
dutch prices:
4850 lowest price 130 euro’s
4870 lowest price 200 euro’s
9800 gtx lowest price 180 euro’s
260 gtx lowest price 240 euro’s

if u say crysis is a 20yr old game u’r really showing u know nothing…sorry :/
besides the site i took it from (techpowerup) had various other resolutions and settings including anti alias etc; i just randomly picked 2 charts.
and as I said there are loads of sites siding on both brands; its just like any other ps3 vs 360 vs wii ‘flaming’ thread; apart from fps theres also the rendering quality
as regarding the price, i go for ati hands down; but considering compatibility issues, temperature and more i’ll go for nvidia
matter of tastes…

then you didn’t read correctly because i’m talking about far cry what is way to old to use as benchmark for recent cards so i refer to it as the old game. the heavily optimized game is crysis, reason why? long story short, it has been sponsored by nvidia while development(The Way It’s Meant To Be Played program) so the benchmarks from crysis aren’t representative for other games.

actually u didnt state which game so i shot u at it
and yeah, actually most of the compatibility issues are based on what you perfectly stated. Seems nvidia is currently dominating right now, and I’ve seen several games featuring the nvidia logo on the start up screens, but i must yet have to meet one featuring ati logo (im not saying there aren’t…i just havent met any) thats why i would opt for nvidia myself; i kinda feel “more safe”
I do know my wii has an ati logo tho
and i dont mind at all

well basicly what ati does is this, forget that nvidia has their program and focuses on making improvements for the games in their drivers
Answer #25
but do they actually succeed?
Answer #26
for the more popular games they get some improvements yes, but it is still a work around for a problem that shouldn’t exist.
Answer #27
nice work
