Vaio experts around?

Can someone help me with that? All instructions by Sony did not help.
Can i use Acronis True Image plus Boot CD and forget the recovery dvd?
I mean, it should work like that,
Start pc with the cd and completely restore everything, right?
I am asking because i think there is hidden partition, right?
Please someone explain, i am complete noob.
The first thing I usually do when I get a new laptop is get rid of the recovery partition, and do a fresh install of the Operating System the way I want it, rather than full of crap bloatware from the laptop manufacturer. Any essential apps you need for the laptop you can usually download from the support site of the manufacturer.
I use Acronis True Image Home (for quite a time), and run regular backup’s of most of my puters onto external drives (usually weekly). I’ve yet to have a problem.
*Edit – it is also very handy if you are upgrading the hdd in the laptop, you can just restore your Acronis backup to the new hdd and it’s good to go.
If you really want to create a recovery dvd, then this way should work
From within the VAIO Recovery Center application, under Choose a program, click Create Recovery Discs
Next to Create Recovery Discs window, click the Start button.
In the When recovery discs are needed window, click the Next button.
In the Choose your media window, click the Next button.
NOTE: Although an option is provided for creating Dual Layer (DL) discs, that option will not produce usable discs on this model. Ensure the Create recovery disc(s) using... DVD(s) option remains selected before clicking Next.
Insert a blank, recordable DVD into the DVD drive.
In the Insert a blank disc window, click the OK button.
Insert a new disc when necessary as instructed.
When all the disks have been created, click the Finish button.
NOTE: After the recovery discs have been created the first time, any disc can be created again by selecting the disc from the list and clicking Next.
Thank you for your help, so i will go with Acronis.
How do i burn the iso for the boot disc? When using Nero many years ago i knew what to do, but now i use the installed burning program in Win7. How do i burn the image there?
For the recovery dvd, first i get message, No optical drive detected. Even tho my dvd drive is working brilliant, even in Vaio Care, just not for that recovery dvd. The emergency dvd burning worked.
When trying again i get message, ..have to translate here..something like, error while creating recovery control.
Is there a way i get that fixed?
After doing image to external hd, can i set back everything without using a dvd? Like you said, not having that crap installed.
I hope i have Acronis later tonight, any advices there?
Thanks for helping
You can always access the Sony recovery partition when you are booting, I think it’s F10 on the Vaio.
It’s completely up to you how confident you feel as to how you want to proceed.
You can leave the recovery partition as it is ( It’s probably just less than 10GB), or you can delete the partition and do a format and complete fresh install of whatever version of Windows you want. (You can get everything you will need via this forum) and people will help you through the steps. This way you will have a Windows install disc anyway if you ever need it, and Acronis is simple to use if you have problems.
You can burn ISO’s quite easy using a free app called IMGburn, use Write image file to disc option.
www.imgburn.com
When you have installed the Acronis and go to do a backup, it will give you the option of backing up the recovery partition seperately as well as the main OS drive. Again, totally up to you for the option to use.
