Unlocking my Fido phone…

January 20th, 2020

Hello so I have bought this Sony Ericsson T715a from Fido on the weekend.
And I would like to unlock it so I can use it with any service provider, and set my own ringtones, etc.
What do I have to do, and how safe is it?
Thanks!

Answer #1
as far as i know fido uses sim cards so you can just put what ever phone company sim card in their, no unlocking necessary.
Answer #2

Debranding
This will allow you to change ringtones and anything else you want. This will delete the crap fido firmware and install the original firmware from SE
THIS will not unlock the phone, only debrand it
WHAT ACTUALLY DE-BRANDING IS ?
it means removing operator firmware replacing it with the manufacturer’s original firmware. Thus converting your phone to its the full specification as it was intended to be by its manufacturer. It is very simple & solution and take o few minutes to complete, with easy to follow instructions.
—>>>>BACKUP THE PHONE BEFORE ATTEMPTING<<<<<—
All text messages, phone contacts, java applications were lost in my attempt xD I had my phone contacts backed up though. These instructions are based off of various sources and my memory of what I did to debrand. Therefore some of the steps may be redundant but these were the steps I took to debrand. (If someone wants to write up a cleaner or better version, please do so =D )
Download A2 Uploader, Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS), and jtimar’s edited customize.xml file.
A2 uploader

SEUS

customize XML

I take no responsibility for any damages caused to your phone.
1) Make a copy of customize.xml and rename it to customize_upgrade.xml
2) Execute A2Uploader.exe
3) Press the FileSystem Tool button.
4) Turn off the phone.
5) While holding the “C” button on the phone, connect the USB cable to the phone and the computer
6) Wait until the log on the left finishes and the file system directory on the right is shown.
7) Browse to tpa/preset/custom
8) Upload both customize.xml and customize_upgrade.xml to the directory.
9) Shutdown FS in A2 Uploader.
10) Disconnect the USB Cable from the phone.
11) Turn on the phone.
12) After bootup, turn off the phone again.
13) Open SEUS and choose T715
14) Follow the on screen instructions to update. Install even if there is no new firmware except DO NOT start up your phone after it is done updating.
15) After update completion, disconnect the phone and follow steps 1 to 11 once again to reupload the customize.xml and customize_upgrade.xml files before booting up your phone
