Unlocking an LG Thrive Cell Phone

Ok guys, I need some help unlocking an LG Thrive Smart phone. I am on the AT&T Go Phone network as I hate contracts, but the service SUCKS for Android devices, or phones that use a lot of data. I want to switch this phone to another GSM network, but I honestly don’t know what to do.
1. I know there are unlock codes touted all over the Internet. Do these work? Is it worth paying for them? The sites seem kinda scammy.
2. Is there a better way to unlock the phone?
3. I’m sure these have been answered in Helpdesk before, but I always fail at searching, and don’t wanna mess with it. Ignore my laziness

well I recently unlocked the very same phone for $15. It is now used for T-Mobile
All you have to do is pay him $15 through paypal and tell the guy your phone model and IMEI #
Here’s the website. I know it looks hella cheap, I thought I was going to get ripped off too but a couple minutes later I got the e-mail with the unlock code. Followed the instructions and now i’m on T-Mobile with that phone. After unlocking it don;t forget to change your MMS settings from ATT to T-Mobile or else you won’t be able to send picture messages.
