So i just got netgear 600 wndr3700 some questions

November 6th, 2013

ok so i set up my netgear wndr3700, and its working pretty good so far,
i set a password on wpa2-psk
now i want to know if this is the best encryption to use?
also how can i hide each device connected to the router, so that they cant be viewed by anyone connected,
and also how can i see who is connected to my network, like if someone tries to access it, or actually breaks in, how can i know?
any other suggestions would be great,
p.s. i bought this
Netgear WNDR3700 Gigabit Wireless N Router + WN2000RPT WiFi Range Extender Combo refurbsihed for $79,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Netgear-WNDR3700-Gigabit-Wireless-N-Router-WN2000RPT-WiFi-Range-Extender-Combo-/320774521889?pt=COMP_EN_Routers&hash=item4aafa6c421
which is a steal.
and its set up in my basement,
and working great 2 floors up, without the range extender,
i hope it stays good reception!

I’ve got a WNDR3500 with the latest firmware, so very similar (except looks), that is the best encryption, but you may also need to enable WPA-PSK [TKIP] to get older devices to connect to it wirelessly.
If you go to the routers configuration page > Maintenance > Attached devices, it will show you what’s connected. However, there is a bug in Netgears latest firmwares which will not show wirelessly connected devices.(I check the Netgears forum now and again, everybody has the same issue at the moment).
The WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] encryption settings will be good enough anyway to stop people from connecting, just use a strong security passphrase (ie not simple).

Keep it in a text file on a USB stick or encrypted file on your puter.
