ringtone quality for a phone

i wana make a ringtone for my phone
but whats the best settings to have the best audio quality?
the default ones on the phone sound perfect, how do i do this?

this depends alot of the model / how new the phone is. quite alot of the ringtones are midis, or my fone is m4a and alot of mp3s
some fones can handle up to full 320 mp3s
