Ram Spikes

May 24th, 2014

Ever since my friend has asked me to put some movies on his hard drive every time i plug in his hard drive my pc will jump from using 2 gig of ram to 8 gig. I know its the hard drive as if i unplug it, it will drop instantly to 2 gig. Any ideas why it is causing my pc to have a major ram spike? and if so how can i resolve the problem.
Also i forgot to say its an external connected via miniusb to usb.

Probably your antivirus.

firewall off, real time protection off, still the same.
Answer #3
in task mgr what’s using the memory ?
allot of files on the drive ?
your OS might be indexing it ?
you run a disk check on the drive ?
in device mgr is the drive set to “quick removal” ?
this behavior slowing the PC down ?
Answer #4
there is no process that is using that amount of ram, thats whats confuzing me, the most thats being used is explorer and chrome at 64 megs each. disk check done on it.
