question on 5.1 surround speakers connecting to pc

July 25th, 2016

i bought logitech z506 5.1 speakers 3 days ago and i set them for my taste of sounding.
question is that i connected front speakers to green, rear speakers to blue and center/sub to yellow pin holes on my realtek 887 soundcard that was builtin to my mobo.
as manufacturer said that speakers can work with any mono/stereo sources also and give output to 5.1 speakers , i removed rear and subwoofer pins now.
as he said , it playing all 5.1 speakers from mp3 or any other stereo sources.
but what is the best connection actually ? just use one stereo pin connection to emulate 5.1 speakers or connect all 3 pins and get the 5.1 output ? which is best ?
i got lot of 5.1 surround movies collection.

Answer #1
For music it does not really matter so much as surround sound can only be emulated from music such as CDs which are only in stereo to start with.
However 5.1 movies use proper discrete sound to each of the six chans, so you should use all three connections.
Then go to the Realtek sound manager and set that for 5.1 and set your video player for 5.1 surround.
Your video/audio players should also be able to do any required surround simulation when you are playing 2 chan stereo material.

yes i thought so but confirmed now. foobar and jetaudio simulating 5.1 on mp3 and flac music. for 6 chan movies potplayer doing great. so i reconnected 3 pins again now.
