Pen Drive issue

Have you checked for errors? (under the Tools tab in Properties)
What is showing in Disk management? I ask this as you may be able to fix it using Diskpart commands.
Have you scanned the drive with something like HD Tune? Maybe you can try to see if you can format and change the file system via cmd

I’ve been trying lots of things with this dreadful 8GB SD card that got corrupted..
It will go right through a slow format..but then still come up faulty!
Pendrive not Showing in Diskpart
Well I think it’s dead but try the HP usb tool or get a live distro and zero it with dd (be careful to choose the right drive because everything will be deleted with the command) as a last resort.
can you Send Me link ? and Procedure Step by Step ?
Pendrive not Showing in Diskpart
Does it show in Disk Management?
You could try formatting it there..
Try untick fast format and do a long one, maybe.

HP has removed the tool, cnet has it (yuk):
http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3000-2094_4-10974082.html
Try this first, tut here
http://www.pcmech.com/article/how-to-repair-an-unreadable-usb-stick/
For dd get Lili, d/l a distro form inside the program and put it to well.. another usb stick Or get a distro (Lubuntu for example) and burn it to a cd then boot from it.
insert your drive which should auto-mount, if not, open terminal (ctrl+Alt+T) and type:
sudo fdisk -l
to see if its filesystem is ntfs or fat32
then create a mount point:
sudo mkdir /media/my_usb <-last one is name, pick w/e you like, no spaces, will be used afterwards
then for FAT32:
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/my_usb -o uid=1000,gid=1000,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137
or for NTFS:
sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /media/my-usb
Now that it’s mounted, we should use the dd tool. Find the drive letter properly,
sudo blkid
Now we have to unmount (sorry if it sounds stupid, mounting then unmounting again is the best way of recognition),
umount /dev/sdX* <- replaceX* with the drive letter and number, found with the command above
Then it’s time for dd, be VERY careful to choose the right disk.
sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1M
You are done, remount it with commands or by unplugging – plugging it again and then use gparted to create any partitions and filesystems you like.

i need screenshot of 2 things before making a comment
1- run diskmgmt.msc , and take the screen shot of what comes up
2- find your drive on disk management screen(not at the top but below) where disks are numbered as disk 1 , disk 2 , disk 3.. , right click disk number of your usb drive and click properties and take screen shot of third tab what comes up. i cant remember the tabs name now but it is the third tab.
also can you answer 1- how old this usb drive is ?
2- did you do anything special which you can remember, just before it gets to its current condition ?
Answer #12
If you have problems with the command line commands you can also use gparted. If your pen drive is listed, create a new partition table and partition it to fat32/vfat. If it’s not listed or formatting it don’t change anything then it is probably malfunctioning.
Answer #13
Pen Drives are another thing that is not designed for permanent storage, and they tend to have a high permanent failure rate too.. they should be expected to fail at some time, and should be backed up.. the manufacturer of the Pen Drive may be the best to recover something worth the cost.. they have the schematics and parts list, and can access the individual chips..

If the HP tool posted above doesn’t work, then bin it. 64GB flash drives are really cheap at the moment, even USB 3.0. I got a 128GB one from MyMemory yesterday for £24
They are based in Jersey and may ship worldwide, have a look.
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/
Windows will only format up to 32GB FAT32 peeps.

partitioning style and partition tables looks normal , those are the most common problems for pen drives but unfortunately not in your case. this pen drive has died friend , i dont think that you can repair it somehow.

Answer #18
, you were trying power cuts with ups , was this connected to the pc on any powercut ?
it is not impossible to recover your drive , if you find an advanced software which has its own algorithm , it can dig in deeper. most software works along with windows and checks the values what i asked. so you will get “drive not found” result with them.

Finally got my 8GB card to format and work all OK..
1. Use the low level formatter from Jack’s link
http://www.pcmech.com/article/how-to-repair-an-unreadable-usb-stick/
Do a format….Took about 15 mins and don’t do other things on the PC while it is running..
2. Close the formatting tool (otherwise Disk Management might not load up).
3. Open the drive in Disk Management…It might say the partition is “raw”.
Right click on the drive and do a Format(quick)……Formatted OK!
I had been running a tool called FAKEFLASHTEST on the card beforehand and this had corrupted it so that it would not format normally..
May not apply to if the disk is not recognized at all..But otherwise worth a try.
Answer #20
Last ditch attempt, try to format it with this
http://www.rmprepusb.com/
As suggested a Low level format might do the trick – I have a licence for that app from HDD Guru, I can pm it to you if you want, makes the format much quicker – let me know.
If there is no data on it that you need to recover, bin it, honestly. It will do the same thing again if you get it working.
*EDIT – once again guys, diskmgmt.msc > Windows will only format FAT32 up to 32 GB.
