CD/DVD-RW Drive Replacement Issue

January 26th, 2020

My ASUS laptop’s Optiarc AD-7580S went out. I found another one (same model number) from a HP laptop on eBay and purchased it. I had to change the faceplate and the bracket but it went in fine, but now whilst my ASUS laptop sees that there is a drive there, it doesn’t recognise any discs put into the drive.
I went into device manager, and uninstalled the old one and restarted, and the new drivers installed fine, but it still doesn’t recognise any discs.
Is this a bad drive, or ? Thanks for any help.

Answer #1
I would imagine that the drive is faulty.
Try booting from live media (a Linux distro for instance) to see if BIOS recognizes the drive with basic drivers.
Answer #2
Thank you . I will give that a try. Much appreciate.
