Movie sound quality

January 24th, 2020

With some of the movies I’ve downloaded, the sound quality is really garbled to the point I can’t quite make out what the actors are saying. Using headphones helps but was wondering if there some kind of audio editing program that would enable me to tweak the sound settings while the movie is playing. Tried using the default audio controls that come with XP Pro, but they don’t seem to do much. Thanks.

Maybe it’s your audio settings that are making things sound wrong. Try adjusting them before trying anything else.
You could try ffdshow and adjust the audio properties. But the merit would need to be set so that ffdshow decodes the audio. If you try Media Player Classic, you can see what codecs are being used on the filter menu and you can make ffdshow preferred so it always gets used by MPC.
In ffdshow there are many properties that can be changed. See if it makes a difference.
