Mac: editing my host files could harm my mac?

October 27th, 2013

I would like to edit my host file “/private/etc/hosts” to run photoshop.
could editing the host cause any problems?

In windows, the hosts file tells the OS where to look when its looking for a specific IP address before it asks the DNS server afaik, I don’t know how it works on Linux. It’s unlikely that something could go wrong, but if you were messing around and wanted something to go wrong it certainly is possible, but it’s a quick fix just replace the host file with a clean one. I’d suggest make a copy and if something goes wrong such as you can’t access the internet or something just replace it with the original.

Using a Mac is the cause of all your problems.
Editing the host file won’t do anything.
Perfectly safe.
