Just as an aside, this hosts file is a VERY good way of stopping ads and popups and other crap.
Here’s a sample of mine: (also, make sure when you save it that it has NO extension. The file is hosts, not hosts.txt)
127.0.0.1 q4master.idsoftware.com#block q4server
127.0.0.1 serial.alcohol-soft.com
127.0.0.1 preymaster.humanhead.com
127.0.0.1 000freexxx.com
127.0.0.1 0190-dialer.com
127.0.0.1 08.185.87.0.liveadvert.com
127.0.0.1 08.185.87.00.liveadvert.com
127.0.0.1 ads108.bannerconnect.net
127.0.0.1 ads108.hpg.com.br
127.0.0.1 ads108.hpg.ig.com.br
127.0.0.1 ads108.liteweb.net
127.0.0.1 ta1.adknowledge.com
127.0.0.1 tag.witbe.net
127.0.0.1 tagesanz.wemfbox.ch
127.0.0.1 taggin.com
127.0.0.1 take5.real.com
127.0.0.1 talkcity.realtracker.com
127.0.0.1 tarantula.together.net
127.0.0.1 targetnet.com
127.0.0.1 targetshop.com
127.0.0.1 targetwords.com
127.0.0.1 tb.adpowerzone.com
127.0.0.1 tb.netzany.com
Not taken from contiguous blocks, but from spots down the file. My hosts file is about 530K, as still doesn’t slow things down.
For those unsure how it works:
127.0.0.1 tb.adpowerzone.com
The browser asks for tb.adpowerzone.com to serve an advert graphic – this is hijacked and pointed to 127.0.0.0 which is YOU. You don’t have the graphic, so no ad is displayed.
