Locked out of laptop

February 13th, 2018

IF it shows “0 Posts,” & no avatar, etc., it’s bec. I’ve been accidentally locked out of my account. They got me back in, (which I REALLY appreciate )but I’m not sure if my posts are showing or not. I didn’t have that many anyway, but better than zero. I’ve been a member for almost 8 years. Just sayin..)

Hey Guys,
I have a pretty nice laptop – Lenovo Y40 (16GB) – few yrs old. When I got a tablet, it’s really all I’ve used for ab. 2+ yrs. (+ my phone).
I’m trying to fire up this laptop, (NOT stolen – Swear to God), but Paranoid/OCD me put about 20 passwords on it. Seriously, I think there are 3. A while back, before I even started messing with this thing, I didn’t feel like dealing with putting all the Hiren’s stuff on a USB, so I just bought one on ebay. It has the regular Hirens, + Ult. Boot + Win 8(.1) drivers, + a cpl of others.
When I boot the laptop, I immediately get “System Password:” (I think I put a pass on the BIOS, the HDD, and the regular pswd.
(Try the “Sys Pswd” 3X, & it makes you reboot & try again.)
Unfort., I can’t even get past that immediate “System Password” – it comes up immediately.
I have COMPLETELY forgotten all 3 passwords ( ), & booting with the Hirens stick does ZERO – at least on the “System Password” (BIOS??). It’s like I have no USB in there at all (I was hoping at least a few tools would pop up. Nothing.)
I also tried booting with a bootable USB, with the entire Win8.1 OS on it. Nothing.
PLEASE tell me that I don’t have a huge brick, now. I just CAN’T reinstall Windows. I have 100’s of GB’s of real imp. files. I’ll try ANYTHING but that.
Anybody who can help, I’d REALLY appreciate it!! Thanks a lot!

From an IT background and when customers have issues with passwords I use Tenorshare Windows Boot Genius. I haven’t used Hiren’s for awhile since this other one does the job for me and gives me access.
Answer #2
It’s a bios password, and you can’t really remove those so easily these days (it used to be possible by simply removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard). Probably have to take it to a Lenovo service. But the data you can get off the HDD by connecting it to another computer and copying it.

I think it’s been sorted:
Guys- To anybody that looked (I was locked out of my Lenovo Y40 laptop - just a few minutes ago..), and tried to think of a solution, I REALLY appreciate it. Fortunately, I JUST got in. (Long story...)
I do thank everybody a lot, though. (I feel sure that y'all WOULD have come up with a solution.)
Thanks again!! (Whew!)
