Laptop Startup Problems

August 4th, 2016

I having trouble with my laptop starting up. I works intermittedly and then either freezes or the display goes blank. Usually, when I hit the power button all that happens is the power light goes on and nothing happens. I removed every bit of hardware possible, including the harddrive, and have left only the memory and the mobo (obviously). I always get the LED signifying that the laptop has power, but sometimes it does nothing but give me a blank screen and then rarely it lets me get into the bios but then freezes after a minute or two. I always get a blank screen when I don’t have the memory plugged in.
Is this a problem with the motherboard or the memory?
If its the memory, it can be replaced and fixed, if it is the mobo, it cannot and the whole laptop must be scrapped.
Please help.

Answer #1
motherboard, memory, CPU & video card
you must have all those to boot
entering the bios uses very lil memory so that would be last on my list
is your video removable, it so remove & reseat it
do the same with your CPU, applying new thermal paste also check your LCD plug @ the mobo, make sure that it’s thight
Answer #2
sadly, i can’t remove the video card or the cpu, so i don’t know what to do
if the memory was causing the problem, would its nonfunctionality cause what i am experiencing?
Answer #3
normally bad memory shows up during windows boot, that when it starts using it the most
would its nonfunctionality cause what i am experiencing?
it might
if that’s the only thing you can test try it, any one you know who can test it
also be sure any connections you can find are tight
Answer #4
does the ram/DIMM have to be connected in order to access the bios?
Answer #5
does the ram/DIMM have to be connected in order to access the bios?
yes
Answer #6
Memory can definitely cause the errors you mention.
Make yourself a bootable CD using this image:
http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.4.iso.zip
Boot from the CD and let the memory test run for an hour or two. If it shows errors, you found your problem. If not, let us know.
Answer #7
i tried booting the cd on the system (which rarely happens to begin with) and it only took a couple seconds for the program to stop and a results screen (i assume) to pop up, but i couldn’t make sense of the data.

additionally, i attempted to start the computer normally and actually made it to windows when the computer went to a windows based blue screen telling me it had “Shut windows down to prevent any damage.” It then told me to remove any recently installed hardware blah, blah, blah.
Answer #8
i tried booting the cd
this memtest you are talking about ?
if so then it looks like there is a problem with the memory
how many memory slots are there, have you tried all/both slots ? to eliminate the slot as the cause of the error
when you get a windows blue screen there’s a stop error about way down the screen
copy or take a pic of that if you can
and under that stop error there may be a file name, note that as well
Answer #9
i tried switching the memory into the other slots and still got the same problem with crashing
i was able to write down the error code for the blue screen: 0x0000050 (0xAE119888,0x00000000,0xB743F839,0x000000080)
but there was no file name or extension
it almost like thier is a time limit, and it seem to work better and longer if left alone for a period of time, but it still always crashes
Answer #10
Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
The Stop 0x50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory. The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.

seems to be pointing to the memory again
no file name under the stop code ? that also indicates bad hardware
Answer #11
well, do you know where i could find replacement memory without having to buy it?
