Internet Splitter

August 5th, 2016

Haiii.
Well here’s the thing. My dad and i use two different computers but only have ONE modem. Our modem only has 1 ETHERNET connection port so we can only use one at a time. is there anything we can do so that we can BOTH use internet and have the same speeds. (i tried using an old wireless router but then my speeds cut down my 90% :[)

You need to install a router to split the internet. Nowadays the routers split the internet speed between the computers. However, the speed is only split if both PCs are downloading at the same time. Anyway, good luck mate^^

What said.
Alternatively, you could install a second network card in either your computer or your father’s, and then run an ethernet cable between both of them.
Answer #3
spider which one would be faster. and also can anyone recommend a good router? i need it for ONLY 2 computers. and cheapest but the fastest.lol sorry for being picky
Answer #4
Well, a GOOD router can be pricey, but I don’t think there’s anything with just two ports on it. I’m assuming these are two desktops. From the cost perspective, the direct cable would be cheapest but I honestly don’t know how it’ll work with connection sharing. Used to split a dialup (gasp!) connection like that, though.
Answer #5
What do you mean direct cable.

The cheapest and most popular is the Linksys WRT54G or something similar to that. I bought mine at bestbuy for 45 bucks.
The most important thing is when you get a router, make sure you secure it by using WPA or if not most likely you’ll end up with WEP :\
