Answer #1
Click-and-drag the Chrome Web Store icon towards the bottom (where Most Visited and Apps tabs are) and a new, blank tab will show up. Drag the icon onto the new blank tab that shows up.
You may have to repeat that process a few times before it works but eventually with some persistence you will have a blank tab free of clutter and not in front of the theme.

Chrome is a terrible browser man. I strongly recommend you try Firefox with New Tab King addon =D
You can also use Tab Mix Plus for 100% control over every aspect of your tab management.
