December 5th, 2020

Im looking to buy a new laptop but alway unsure whats best value, not really for gaming – just everyday use.

> i7 Quad Core – if poss
> 1TB HDD
> 8GB RAM
> Windows 7 any help appreciated.

If it’s just for everyday use you won’t need a processor as strong as an i7.
My best recommendation would be this:
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_530U3C_1281888.html – 660
Comes with an SSD as standard (You will notice better performance from a SSD>HDD than a more powerful CPU for everyday use)
You could always buy a 1TB external for 50.
Hope this helps….
PS. If you don’t pick that laptop look at the rest of the site. I bought my Samsung 535 Laptop from there for 450. Great site and fantastic delivery.
Answer #2
thanks for that, not really fussed about an SSD i have one on my PC – would prefer a 1TB internal as i download a lot and travel with.
and windows 8, not really getting into that – prefer 7
Answer #3
Ahh ok, if that’s the case then there are laptops on that site (look at samsung’s) that have a small SSD as a cache to speed up your most used app’s documents (Usually 20-30gb) Therefore you will get the benefit of the large internal drive with 20gb+ of space which speeds up application load times and windows boot times, think that would be the best option!

thanks, any thoughts on this?:

sucks about having win8 though, all laptops on there do. Could easily put win7 on though right?
maybe this?

I got an Acer 5750 i7 8G, nvidia gt540M.
September 2012, $650.. Runs perfectly, play all sorts of modern stuff.

any thoughts on this? im unsure about acer as people say the built quality is poor, but specs are great

Lenovo Y580. Trust me when I say this, best laptop ever. I’ve had it for about 8 months and I’m loving it. It plays any game maxed out, all your video editing and processing is done easily. Brushed aluminum all round, high quality speakers with subwoofers. It’s got this feature called Dolby Home Theater 4, there are basically 3 options; normal, movie and intelligent, in movie it will increase the contrast and volume, and intelligent will choose it for you. A laptop with the same hardware goes for around $1700, this is almost too good to be true.

I was about to write back to the post to comment on the poster after me’s suggestion saying Acer build quality is poor! lol
Most of their laptops are built using plastic, as they try and get as much specs in for the money in a laptop and just stick a plastic shell in it.
If you are going to use the laptop as a desktop based laptop with a monitor plugged in to it i’d say go for it because the build quality won’t matter.
The reason I say samsung is because they make the ram, the screen, the battery, the SSD and there keyboard + touchpads are usually good and build quality is usually good. Lenovo are another good manufacturer that was bought by IBM.

How bout this one?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Ideapad-15-6-inch-Laptop-Gunmetal/dp/B009RGBD3Q
It got an i7 (Well, A dual core one with HT, But it’ll do fine for your uses) 8GB RAM, No 1TB but close enough (750GB) and it comes with Win8 (But you could easily install Win7 yourself, Or alternatively, Install classic shell for the more familiar GUI)

Nonsense! The person who wrote that review is obviously clueless.
1366×768 is standard for 15.6″ 16:9 laptop displays!
17.3″ ones use 1600×900, And laptops that use FullHD (1920×1080) are very, very expensive!
So don’t over-think it. Anyways, The one suggested would fit your requirements better (quad core i7, 1TB) but you could save 60 if you go with the lenovo, Up to you.
Answer #17
this is the one ive ordered, pretty happy with my choice
not sure i really needed the quad core, i read dual core with HT is pretty good anyway
