Guidance on a laptop charger

August 7th, 2016

Hello,
I have a dell mini laptop which uses a charger of 19v-1.58a
it isnt working anymore,
however i have a toshiba charger having 19v-3.95a
It actually charges the battery
I just wanted to know whether it is safe using this charger?
Thanking you in advance.

Answer #1
well from the wattage it appears as the toshiba is a full blown laptop …if you are not experiencing any type of over heating then you can proceed to use the charger
Answer #2
I don’t think it’s safe..
1V extra and the same current..You might just get away with..
1a extra can damage your laptop..Current is more lethal than the voltage..
But you can try it at your own risk..
Answer #3
It’s all good, You got nothing to worry about!
When it comes to replacing AC adapters, The general rule is that the voltage has to be identical, And that the ampere
rating can be either identical or higher (But not lower!). The voltage is static, While the ampere is dynamic (It’d only use as much of it as it requires, So there’s no risk involved if it’s higher than the original!)
