External HDD CRC Error Revover / Copy Files

February 1st, 2020

I’ve been a long time browser here and have come here for help.
I have an external HDD USB 3.0 that has when you plug it in has a CRC Error making it unreadable in Windows.
In Ubuntu/Linux, the drive mounts, but non of the files are visible, though the OS is aware that 300GB/1TB is used.
I was wondering if anyone here has good experience with any software to fix this.

If it’s a physical defect of the disk then there’s not a lot you can do about it. If your data is really critical, there are data recovery services that you can avail of but they’re usually very expensive
One thing you could try: Remove the drive from the casing and try connecting it directly
