Dvd burner cant read written dvd files after burned movies
June 19th, 2019
It was working perfect untill i bought a 100 pack of empty verbatim dvd+r.
Program says everything was burned correct, i also tested it with imgburn but the verification was not working since it cant read the dvd.
Burning music on a cd worked perfect.
Dvd burner is around 6 months old and updated to the latest firmware its the LiteOn atapi ihas324.
How can i get it back working ?
Verbatim is a quality brand so that should be good.
Can it be solved with buying a external dvd burner ?
Can you be sure it’s not just a bad batch of dvds.
Can you test in another drive, or even a stand alone one to see if works.
Knowing there is nothing wrong with dvd should be your first step.

I use DVD -r not +r for movies. They say there is no difference but I disagree. IMHO verbatim is a crap brand in regards to Disks, never had any joy burning movies on them.

I just checked on my laptop and its burning fine on there.

I never had problems before with this brand.
Run a lens cleaning disk in your DVD drive might help..

I did already test that. I let the disk run again 3 times but still nothing Is burning cd different than burning a dvd ? Since burning cds works fine but no dvds.
Can I ask what problem actually is again as I’m a little confused.
Is it burning ok, but then can’t read, or it’s not burning?
So if you try to burn a dvd, will it then play in your laptop.
You’ve only said dvd will burn in laptop.
Just trying to work out the problem.
Could it be a convertX problem and not hardware at all.
If you burn dvd in laptop will it then read in PC, and vice versa.
The DVD laser is different to the one for CD..
So it would appear that the DVD pickup is faulty.
Most likely a new drive is required.

I’m sure you’ve never used Princo or Ritek and then you’d know what crap really is.
Maybe try another burner, what DVD player are you using?

I tested 3 programs convertxtodvd 4 and 5 and imgburn i can burn the movies. Buth the dvd player cant read them afterwards also the program imgburn has a option to verify the discs but fails since it cannot read the dvd after it has been burnt.
Movies that i burn on the laptop plays fine on my pc.
I just checked the disks that i had, that couldent be read on the pc and from the 8 dvds that i burned on my pc 6 played on my laptop but some couldent play the whole movie when i wanted to skip parts.
Anyway i will see if it falls within the warranty
convertxtodvd
the latest is v6, you are 2 versions behind. About 2 years outdated?

For this type of program it shouldn’t matter.
Programs don’t just break.
The fundamentals stay the same when burning to dvd.
That won’t change.
The only reason you’d need to update would be if a format wasn’t supported by convertX came out.
If the drive can’t read what it burned itself then you have either a 1) dirty and/or 2) defective drive. It’s that simple
Can I recap?
You burn a disk on one computer and it fails to verify and they are unreadable.
You burn the same brand/batch disc on another computer and they are OK, fine and dandy.
** That indicates the disc are OK
Now – you’ve done a lens clean, the brushy thing, sometimes with a little bottle of isopropyl alcohol,
Afterwards, no change, still bad burns.
** That indicates that either the lens is clouded over (cleaning can’t fix this, it;s inside the lens itself) AND/OR the laser is burnt out (or some similar related fault).
NOTE – everything thinks the burn was working – that means the basic mechanics/electronics of the burner are fine – I;m still thinking of cloudy or burnt out.
Question: When you burn a disc, look at it (or look at one of the old bad ones) – can you see, near the outer edge, the actual burn area? It will be a darker circular section from the inside hole going out to somewhere near the edge.
If you can see it, it is all “normal” – smooth edged and such (I ask that becasue I’ve had a few drives that died that had wobbly edges and cut-out bits in the burn pattern).
*** not seeing the burn pattern = dead laser; seeing the burn but it has an odd pattern = somthing is in there flying around, fluff, a tiny bit of plastic, etc.
Result – seriously… dvd burners are cheap as a $2 crackwhore now. Just go and buy a new one. £17 for a decent brand laptop burner off of Amazon.

Yes – claim it under warranty then (sorry).
Do the checks on the discs – keep a few bad ones in case they make a fuss over proof.
Verbatim are a decent brand name – even the newer ones that are supposed to be less-good than the older ones are still OK. I use a lot of them.
And the fact that they burn on a different computer indicates they are good.

Odd – I replied to this but it disappeared…
