Read through that stuff.
Or just simply put xp cd in your computer boot from cd delete all partitions make new ones install xp. (note: youll lose all your data so make a backup)

Try to boot first from the vista cd and then delete all the partitions, than try the XP cd again?

Does your friend happen to have SATA Hard-Drives? If so, then when booting the Windows XP CD you’ll need to install third party SATA drivers. You can get them from the CD that came with the mother board or from the internet. When booting from the XP CD you’ll see an option that says “F6 – Install Third Party Drivers” or something along these lines. Install these drivers and then install XP. Just format the Vista partition and install XP on it. Good luck mate ^_^

Best thing is to use HirensBootCD (Partition Magic) to delete all partitions then set up all new partitions again according to what your friend wants on his HD.
I’d suggest 25/30 gigs partition for the OS or 40/60 gigs if he plays a lot of games (games take up a lot of space when installed).
With the remaing space just decide what you want for data etc.
If he plans to install two operating systems (dual boot) then create two 25/30 gigs partitions. then use the remaining space as desired.
Make sure the OS partitions are created at the beginning of the HD and not at the end.
IMPORTANT ……. Make sure he downloads all the neccessary XP hardware drivers before he formats anything.

Thanks to saturnsid I remembered something, nowadays if Vista is preinstalled on laptop there is a big chance that you won’t find XP Drivers.
