Connecting to wireless on linux (centos 5.x)

August 5th, 2013

Hi everyone

I have intel corp. pro/wireless 2100 3b mini pci adapter.
Laptop is dell d400.
Using centos version 5.5

How do I connect to the wireless?I’ve tried search the net and typing some commands

eg. lsmod –> ipw2100 existed but it had used by : 0

I also went to system > network > devices, whoever when I had to choose my adapter, the one that I’m using (intel 2100 3b) didn’t exist.
yum install ipw2100 –> could not find package

Does anyone have the same card and any luck on connecting to the net?
please note that ethernet works fine

first of all you need to add repository’s becouse CENTOS sucks:
From here:http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
Install RPM Fusion free for RHEL 5 or compatible like CentOS AND RPM Fusion nonfree for RHEL 5 or compatible like CentOS
Then you can search in package manager that will appear more stuff.
Then for wireless you need to install some sort of network manager like “Network Manager” (thats the name of the app too) or “WICD” wich is another manager. Try Network Manager and then if it doen´t work install WICD.
Then it should appear next to the clock in panelbar (after you reboot). Now it must be easy like select your wireless network and put the password “windows style”.
