Can anyone recommend some software to check my hard drive please.

You don’t need to run any tests on it, Just see what it says on the overview tab!
Almost all HDDs made in the last two decades or so a built-in health monitoring system, So you just need the
right app to read the data off it. Set that aside, While such apps can sometimes predict an HDD failure, Even a healthy one can go bad at random! So if you value your data, You should maintain regular backup onto an external HDD (As well as online, For the real important stuff).
