Characters When Playing Movie With Subtitle

August 3rd, 2016

Hey there my friend asked me for ice age 3 with lektor however there is not polish lektor for this movie yet so i found subtitles but when I play them windows wont see the characters properly. I know I can fix it by making windows in polish language but I wanted to do this just with media player classic ? or maybe VLC player
how would i make the movie playing software read the polish characters?

go into control panel -> regional settings-> languages and tick both boxes there and click apply, if prompted for a win xp cd just insert it (even if its a bootleg) next go to advanced options and look for polish on the list and install it as well. restart your pc and try playing the movie again with subs.

if you have the polish language pack on your machine like outlined above, but you dont want the whole of windows in polish just the subtitles, try this. It worked for me when I was trying to get Thai subtitles to work on my laptop with normal windows language still in English
Open up subtitle file in Firefox, it still displays odd characters. From view menu select Character Encoding, then selected the correct encoding for your language. Then the subtitles display in the correct foreign characters in Firefox. Copy and paste it all from Firefox into notepad, then save over the top of the original file, making sure to select UTF-8 encoding. (and make sure to save the file as a subtitle file, not a tx file!) If any ones else is having trouble with other languages, this could also be a solution to your problem. Just select you appropriate encoding in Firefox.
