Can’T connect to internet on my laptop…

August 21st, 2013

Hey guys I have a Sony Vaio PCG-8Q9L Laptop and when I tried installing a fresh Windows XP Home Edition I bought from the store all the internet drivers were messed up and I couldn’t connect to the internet even using a Ethernet cable.
I am installing Windows XP Pro SP3 right now and I’m hoping that will work, but what do you think is the problem? There was 3 partition and I deleted 3 of them and their is 1 that is unallocated which is 8MB and I can’t delete it to combine with the first one. So when I boot it asks me to choose the two. The second option doesn’t work but the first one does. How can I connect to the internet so I can install the drivers? The laptop didn’t come with a CD/DVD.

Get the drivers from the Sony support site
Not sure what Country you are in, so here’s Europe

You can probably merge that unallocated 8MB with another partition using Acronis Disk Director boot disc.

thanks, i did that. now my wireless card isn’t able to connect to the internet. I can only connect using a cable. My card is DWL 650. I checked the device manager and I get a yellow exclamation on ethernet controller. I tried finding the drivers on the site, but it said it is unsupported and their is no link to download the older files and I can’t even connect to windows update. I am using windows xp home edition.

o.k jason try this

How do I install my DWL-650 in Windows XP?
Note: This FAQ applies to the DWL-650 only. Please visit the Products page for installation for the DWL-650H, 650+, 650K1, DWL-A650, and 650L1.
Depending on when you purchased your DWL-650 you may not have the XP compatible drivers on the CD that ships with the unit. To make sure that you have the XP compatible drivers, you can download a fresh copy from the D-Link ftp site.
Before you start:
Uninstall the old drivers and configuration utility by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Highlight the D-Link wireless configuration utility and click Remove. After the software has been removed, double-click the System Icon in Control Panel and click Hardware>Device Manager. Right-Click the DWL-650 listed under Network Adapters and select Uninstall. Close any open windows.
Step 1 Download the latest drivers and extract to your hard drive.

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the lappy telling you what wi-fi card is in it (it maybe under the battery).
Just do a Google search for a driver for that wi-fi card with your OS
