Building a New Gaming Desktop, need help on recommendation

July 23rd, 2013

Hi all,
Looking to build a new gaming desktop to fully experience games like Battlefield 3, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 or even better ones.
Budget is around USD$ 1500 ups/down or – willing to go higher depending on how appealing it is. Not to include Monitor and Casing. All recommendation is welcome! Much thanks.

Radeon HD 7870 (about 300 usd - will be released in about a week)

And an HDD (recommend a SSD)
EDIT:
Found after much search a chart of the HD7870’s performance – If you want more power you can always run it in crossFire ^^

what monitor you got. if its only 1080p then a 6990 would be WAY overkill.

You don’t need to spend $1500, my computer that’s around $750 can do all of that.
Wait a bit if you aren’t too desperate, because the new Intels (Ivybridge) and the new 28mm GPUs are almost out (AMD’s already are out).
For now:
Processor: i5 2500k
Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
RAM: 8gbs ddr3 1600mhz G.Skill
Case: Silverstone Raven 3
Boot Drive: Intel SSD 320
Storage: Samsung Spinpoint F3
Cooler: Hyper 212+/Evo
GPU: AMD/ATi HD 7950
And plenty of Noctua fans.

ElricAe what monitor do you have? Would be optimal if we knew that so you get the right GPU ^^ Also will this computer only be used for gaming or do you need to run programs which need a lot of power?

My Monitor is this,

This computer will be mainly used for gaming, also for multiple usage such as gaming while recording, or opening multiple explorer, with music video onz etc. Is that what you mean as running programs which need a lot of power?
Hehe thanks!

Ok Meant programs for example Maya which renders pictures – need a whole lot of CPU power ^^
But as far as I can see you don’t need i7 CPU as it’ll be of no use for you Therefore just go with the i5 2500K or 2550K
As for the graphic card you should buy the HD7870 (saw the price at 350 USD, still a whole lot cheaper than the HD7950 and the GTX580(close to the GTX580 performance but much much cheaper))
